If you own a 4-wheel drive vehicle that can handle the beach (meaning, it has the proper off-road ground clearance and reduced tire pressure), you can drive up the beach from Corolla (where Highway NC 12 ends at the horse fence). See further below for more information. Parking permits are now required, although no beach driving permit is necessary. Here is a link to the parking permit. Be sure to read all rules and regulations before you drive your 4×4 on the beach! If you are not a Currituck County resident or property owner, or a visitor staying in a rental home on the 4WD beach, you will need to purchase a weekly parking permit to park on the 4WD beaches of Corolla. If you do not have a 4x4 vehicle and are interested in seeing the horses via a professional licensed guided 4x4 tour operator just Google "Spanish Mustangs of Corolla guided driving tours" or just click the link. You can support the Wild Horse Fund here.
As you can see, the green bars representing 2019 show a pre-Covid market environment, and we were ahead of that pace up until October, but it has started to lag behind 2019 levels. Mortgage rates have a lot to do with that, as they steadily climbed throughout the year.
The residential inventory graph shows that inventory is starting to come back versus 2021, but the end of 2021 and early 2022 lines show that inventory levels were extremely low. There are buyers lined up on the sidelines waiting for rates to come down, and I don’t think the supply-demand ratio has been resolved yet. We are still at a fraction of 2019 inventory levels.
Vehicles are required to use driving lanes adjacent to the dune line between Milepost 14.5 and Milepost 17 from 9AM until 5PM beginning the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day.
